Book 10: After I Do

Book: After I Do by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Goal: 10
Rating: 3/5

I really wanted to like this book. I thought the story line was really interesting and I wanted to find out what happened but I really disliked the writing. And for a book that was supposed to back an emotional punch, it fell really flat. There wasn’t enough of Ryan’s voice in the story, I really enjoyed his letters but that was such a small part of it. Lauren was a little too spoiled for my tastes. Some good thoughts here. I’m really intrigued by the plot of the rest of her books but I’m not sure I can stomach her writing style again.

Book 9: The Raven Boys

Book: The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
Goal: 9
Rating: 5/5

This was so much better the second time. I loved already knowing some of the secrets that are revealed in later books because you can catch all the hints she drops in this book. I’m already heart broken just thinking about what is going to happen in the last book. And I love the writing so much in this book, it’s so beautiful.

Book 8: Made for You

Book: Made for You by Lauren Layne
Goal: 8
Rating: 3/5… maybe 3.5

On one hand, I really really enjoyed this. On the other hand, it felt really superficial. I think I love this trope simply because it’s a legit reason for what would otherwise be instalove (even though it was kinda instalove at 15). But I wanted something a little bit more out of their relationship. I thought it was a little ridiculous of Will to just storm off after telling her he’s been in love with her for years and barely giving her a chance to think about it. Brynn was just a little too snobby for my taste, why wouldn’t you know what he does for a living?  And why did it take them 15 years to get to this point!? Anyway… I still really liked it. And I’m inclined to go back and read the first book in this series even though I already read the first chapter and decided to give it a pass. haha.

Book 7: The Rosie Project

Book: The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion
Goal: 7
Rating: 3/5

Hmmm… I liked it, but not quite as much as I was expecting to. The beginning and end were enjoyable but I thought the middle dragged quite a bit and I was about ready to put it aside for the second time!  Glad I finally finished it but I have about zero interest in the second one.
